We don’t do business in a vacuum and in no month was that more obvious that during the FIFA World Cup right here in South Africa in June. Being a company which recognises the value of providing our staff with benefits that make working at ACE Insurance a pleasure, Wendy van den Heever, assistant to Mike Durek, decided that special times indeed demand special measures. Everything in June was out of the ordinary: massive excitement as international stars (and not just football players, either – movie stars, top politicians and the who’s who of the world!) jetted in, matches got underway and football fever took hold.
With all of that going on, those of our staff members with children faced something of a dilemma: no school meant disruptions to the ebb and flow of life. That’s where we stepped in, covering the cost of aftercare for all our staff to ensure that the unusual pace of life didn’t mean any further burden to them.
